Manta Raider

For awhile now I've been tinkering with this prototype idea of a VR
experience that fuses my love of sea life, Rez Infinite, Wipeout XL, and
the Nausicaa glider into an exploratory racing game of sorts. This is
my first attempt of what that could look like, time/space folding whale
and all.

Big thanks to Glen Southern, Henri Schoots and Gomesh Karnchanapayap for inspiring me to want to try my hand at Gravity Sketch with the Manta Rider. If you notice in the turnaround vid, you can see the avatar character a wee bit better.

Other tools used include the Realistic Effects Pack Vol.4 for Unity and Tilt Brush for Space Whale and avatar

Breath with Ellie

This goes out to those folks who experience anxiety, which seems to
be most everyone these days. Ellie is here to do some breathing
exercises with you. At the 13 second mark, you can sync your breathing
to the aligning planets. Try it for a minute, see how you feel.

It's no mistake I chose Imogen Heap's "Hide and Seek" either, as her
concert experience is playing in WaveVR today. Another opportunity to
quiet the mind and dance.

Project Koko & a Happy VRversary to me!

One year ago this week, I picked up an Oculus Rift and a laptop on sale from my local brick and mortar with very little knowledge of what I was jumping into beyond having seen a few amazing viral online clips. Fast forward one very eventful year later and here I am with Koko the Gorilla signing “love” in a very early tease an experience that not only pays tribute to the memory of an amazing creature, but to the possibility of transcending boundaries.

In that spirit, the hearts beating loud are also very much meant for you all as a community. Many of you have inspired me to get up every day and continue to improve, learn, push myself artistically in ways I never thought I would. It's comforting to know that I'm not the only one putting so much time and effort into this paradigm shifting journey. So thank you for all that you do and I will do my best to always give back.

Tilt Brush work

Tilt Brush got a brand spanking new refresh this past month and the work that is streaming out of the scene is astounding as ever. Here were some of my recent forays back into the fold.

Dark Phoenix

Now in Spring, Summer, and Fall looks!
I've been having shared sculpting sessions in VR in a program called MasterpieceVR. There's a certain synergy and magic that happens when you're chatting and creating at the same time with like minded folks. In this case, we were long distance sculpting from San Francisco to Seattle to Glasgow. I can't recall a time in history that this was possible. Naturally, this strange bird came out of my noggin and I gave him different treatments in post.

Molly's got Moxie I tell ya!

Why should cows have all the fun? When Molly first witnessed a jump over the moon, she enrolled in all the STEM courses she could, entered hackathons, and binge watched TED Talks to get her project off the ground. Behold, the Moxie-700 Jetpack, friendly to organisms with low metabolisms.

Molly was my entry for the Sketchfab/Medium Claymation Challenge. Check out the winning entries and take Molly for a spin below!

Grave of the Fireflies: Setsuko

This piece is dedicated to the masterful Isao Takahata, a humanist filmmaker who co-founded Studio Ghibli and left behind a beautiful, haunting legacy. It's hard to put into words just how affecting "Grave of the Fireflies" when I first watched it. Poly: https://poly.google.com/view/aBphySckJ79

Coral Boy Meets the Manta Sisters

I've been dealing with a fair share of chronic nerve pain this past
month and because art imitates life, this piece became one about
healing, patience, and opening more empathy windows to those who
experience pain on a much grander scale. Also, to have a real life love
touch by a manta ray is a true blessing. It made me all warm and fuzzy
on the inside and if you ever get the chance to see these beauties put
on a water acrobatics show for you, you're in a for a real treat.

Cradle the Moon: Epiphany

Happy 2018! This piece is dedicated to all
you amazing artists and devs that inspire and motivate me to keep
pushing myself as a storyteller. When someone asks how to describe the
last half of the year in VR, I say it's my second childhood. I've found
myself smiling with glee while creating, marveling at the daily works of
art I witness here, and constantly learning more than I could ever have
hoped to. This is rarefied space we get to play in, and it's not lost
on me that we can make a soulful and paradigm shifting impact in ways we
haven't even anticipated.

And on that tip, I've just fallen in
love with Tilt Brush. This is connected to my other piece where I take
an old 2D piece and revitalize it in VR.
